Using the MOD® is as easy as 1-2-3!
The device is securely locked onto an IV pole and placed within easy reach of the patient at the bedside. The patient wears a (RFID) wristband that has been programmed to the device. When the prescribed lock-out interval has passed, the patient sees a green ready light on the front panel. To obtain a dose of medication the patient follows these easy steps:
- Touches the pain scale button that corresponds to his/her pain level. Touching the button records the pain level and activates the RFID reader within the device.
- The patient holds his/her RFID wristband over the front panel of the device which activates the reader and instructs the device to deliver a medication dose.
- Patient removes a single pill from the device and takes the medication At the facility-directed time, the device signals the patient to enter a reassessment pain score. The patient simply touches the number that best corresponds to their current pain level.
All information the patient enters into the device – their pain score and reassessment score – is sent to the hospital EMR for inclusion in the patient’s permanent record. Additionally, the proprietary software allows hospitals to build unique databases to use to improve hospital care in many areas.
Evidence-based data have shown that patients who have access to their own pain medications report better pain control, improved appetite, mood and sleep to speed recovery and provide better overall satisfaction. The MOD® device is a logical transition from IV PCA to an oral PCA pain program prior to discharge.
Nursing time saved with the MOD® device frees up time to devote to better quality of care and managing the higher acuity patient.
